I found this large creature sunning itself on a Black Wattle, but didn't know what it was until I read Duncan's blog. Now I think it's probably a winged bulldog ant, and Duncan writes about it so eloquently you should pop over and have a read.

Looks like they're out in force. Friends near Anakie ended up having to retreat from the garden when a bunch of them emerged from their nests. A bumper year for bull ants, maybe?
